Has Shalldesign caught your eye when you have driven by? Wondered what lay behind the Australiana-kitsch in the front display?
Found at 246 Elizabeth Street, North Hobart, it is hard not to miss the interesting pieces and burst of colours emitted from the store.
The Two Girls confess. We have been meaning to venture in for some time. On a recent stroll from North Hobart to the daily grind, we stopped and stared longingly through the window and decided to return during business hours.
We called one recent Saturday morning and discovered Sue Hall and her lovely Shalldesign Studio.
Sue Hall could be classified as a hoarder. In her own words ‘I’ve got a pile of tea towels you couldn’t jump over.’
These tea towels provide the fabric used to upholster chairs and lounges, ottomans and cushions.
You can purchase pieces Sue has created or you can have your own furniture covered with her collectibles.
Along with her stylish interior furnishings, there are a range of more affordable knick knacks like jewellery and lots and lots of cool badges which exercised one of the Two Girls.
You can even find a skirt fashioned from a tea-towels and look like Amanda Palmer in her parting gift to Tasmania after MONA FOMA 2012.
The items in Shalldesign are handmade and generally one-off pieces, so prepare yourself for prices.
So next time, instead of passing by, call in see what Sue has to offer.
