One hot mother and another mother, good food in Burnie

I first visited Hot Mother at least five years ago with Mrs Glamorous NW Coast.  On a recent business trip to Burnie, This Girl was pleased to see that Hot Mother was still trading after so many years.

Five years ago it was the place for lunch and it didn’t disappoint then. They’re still going strong and now they’re open for the early morning coffee and breakfast trade.

Hot Mother is one of those unique joints that is chock-a-block full of quirky things to gaze at while you wait your order.

The seats are from old buses, the tables very cool 50s style café tables and the seats’ headrests are covered with groovy tea towels.

This Girl had the eggs and bacon on toast for $12.  It was a tasty version of the traditional, no bells and whistles, just simple good food at a good price.

Hot Mother seems very well loved by locals; while I was eating there was a steady stream grabbing their morning coffee and a few eating in.  All pleasantly welcomed by the staff and other customers.

One man sat down to chat with a friend who was eating in, and his coffee order arrived in front of him without having to ask. That’s service that keeps people coming back.

Hot Mother has a sister site called Another Mother. I didn’t get to visit but I was pleasantly surprised that the catering for our event was provided by them.

Another Mother is not your regular caterer of point sandwiches. There was yummy date muffins, delicious fresh salad rolls and Chinese take away containers full of tandoori chicken quinoa salad.

I’ve been told by locals that Hot Mother and Another Mother have been set up by two local mums that have managed a nice fit between their working lives and their family lives.  Hot Mother is open 7am to 2:30pm, while Another Mother is open 9am to 3pm.
