Basket and Green
Basket and Green is where Living Loving Hobart was born, over a glass of bubbles and about the best vegie burger in the world.
It is our go-to café because apart from the awesome food, it feels like home. And we don’t mean there’s washing to be done. It’s comfortable and genuinely welcoming.
This Girl likens B and G to ‘Cheers’ where ‘everybody knows your name’. We are always warmly greeted by the lovely Gabby and George and the younger generation, Tom and Lily, who we’ve watched grow up over the last three or so years.
B and G is mostly a weekend treat for us now. We don’t get their vegie burgers so much anymore because they’re Monday to Friday lunch menu only. The Two Girls were lucky enough to be given the vegie burger recipe from a former chef and below is One Girl’s take on it.
Breakfast of choice more often than not is the rosti with pesto, roast tomato and poached egg, $16. This Girl orders a side of free range bacon for an extra $4 to go with. The Other Girl does like a sweet breakfast and usually goes their waffles with seasonal fruits and deliciousness like mascarpone and caramelised walnuts. When she’s not in a sweet mood, she’ll often choose their huevos rancheros $16.50, which you can spice it up with some chorizo for $3 extra. These non-traditional rancheros have a frijole addition (pinto bean mash) which makes for a decent feed.
When I take the Devotee here he always eats the BIG Breakfast, $19.50, that comes with sourdough toast, two eggs your way, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, roast tomato and B and Gs own baked beans. Devotee forgoes the tomato and baked beans but adds a side of Black Pudding for $4.
B and G is our go to place when we just want to head out to a cosy, familiar venue with a guaranteed good meal. They have comfy bench seats with tables that can cater for just one or two or many.

Their opening hours are 7:30am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 2:30pm Saturday and Sunday.
