Crumb Street Diner

Crumb Street’s Zac and Sian are back, tempting Hobart with their bbq goodness and more!

This Girl and Devotee went to check them out in their new digs at 31- 33 New Town Road.

Crumb Street Diner is a little more grown up than their previous incarnation; Crumb Street Kitchen. The outdoor area has the familiar Astroturf and spool tables but inside they’ve gone a little less grunge and a little more cool with a casual diner-style feel; they even serve milkshakes! Better still, they are licenced and have a selection of cocktails!

On their menu is a good choice of all day brunch options that are not just about meat, with seasonal roast vegetable omelette $15, an intriguing sounding breakfast salad $14 and French toast $14.50, for those that like something a little sweeter earlier in the day!

From 11:30am they start to get really serious about their meat, this is Crumb Street with the dial turned up! Burgers that you can load up with extras and their famous smoked bbq meats, plus something new; their Nashville style hot chicken and fish along with their regular sides. They have a kids menu too and $8 desserts; banana split, Eaton mess, lemon tart and rice pudding.

You can dine in their outdoor courtyard with table umbrellas and blankets for those daring enough to face the Tassie weather, indoors is a large dining table and a couple of high tables for smaller numbers, fitted out with street art and neon lights it makes for a great ambience when the sun goes down.

We ordered take out from their walk up window, Devotee went for their Nashville Style Hot Chicken $15 – mild of course with a side of fries and Sweet Carolina sauce. You get your choice of wings, tenders or dark meat; which is what Devotee went for. Smokey fried goodness and he’s hooked!

This girl was keen to try the lamb ribs but they were sold out – instead I opted for their lamb burger special $14, a beautiful thick slice of rolled lamb served on their house made brioche bun with salsa verde and melting cheese – amazing!

Zac is still king of the smoker, but they’ve now hired a pastry chef who makes their brioche buns for the burgers, along with donuts, pastries and other sweet goodies to eat in or take home. This girl called in on my way to work and was kindly shouted to a coffee and a beautiful raspberry and custard Danish by Sian.

Sian tells us the renos happening at the front of the building will soon become their new new restaurant and bar, these guys have us excited for what is next!


Crumb Street Diner are open every day:

  • 7am to 9pm Monday to Friday
  • 8am to 9pm Saturday
  • 8am to 4pm Sunday.
