Food is about family, welcome to ours!  A simple and inviting tag line prominently and tastefully displayed on the outer wall of the newly opened Spencers in Lindisfarne.

Situated in what was previously Aproneers, this site was set to become Hill Street Lindisfarne, however timing and other factors hasn’t seen that come to light. Instead Hill Street were proud to announce the site was re-opening in Feb 2017 as a new café, run by Carly Martin and her husband Chris. Carly owned and managed Coffee Break at Eastlands and brings 25 years of experience to Spencer’s.

This Girl met Milly there recently for an early morning breakfast.

Spencer’s is bright and welcoming. There are a lot of tables but there is plenty of space between each and surprisingly for a large space it’s not overly noisy.

In the cafe’s centre is a fireplace and cosy lounge. Another feature is a large table with bright orange chairs which is complemented by the orange dragonflies covering the back wall. The back wall also features a full-length bench seat that serves as seating for the tables running along it.

Milly, unsurprisingly, went for the eggs Benedict, her absolute favourite breakfast meal and she loved Spencer’s version. She said that it was the best she’s had in a long time! Although it wasn’t a traditional version serve on a muffin, she liked the bread they used; it was soft like a muffin, not the crunchy toast that has become trendy with eggs Benedict of late.

I chose their Wursthaus beef sausage with house made baked beans, a poached egg and shaved grana. This was a hearty meal; the sausage was cooked beautifully and I’m guessing that is the reason we had a bit of a wait for our meals. The beans were tasty but definitely made better with the combination of the sausage and beautifully poached egg.

Their coffee is good and they have a selection of Jean Pascal cakes and sweets. They’re licensed too, so perfect for weekend brunches with a glass of wine or two!

All in all Spencer’s is a warm inviting space with some great menu options, the familiar and something a little different like Cantonese duck omelette and Spanish potato tortilla

Although I’m a Northern suburb’s girl, I can see this will become a regular place for a relaxed weekend brunch

Spencer’s are at 145A East Derwent Highway and open Tuesday to Sunday from 7:30am until around 4pm.  Keep an eye on their Facebook page for menu specials and check out their regular menu on their website.
