Waffle On Cafe

Waffle On Café is a home-grown success story. In three years this small family business has gone from food van to café.

They’ve done the hard yards at markets and events around Tasmania and it’s paid off. Now they’ve sold the truck and set up a café in Liverpool Street, Hobart.

This Girl and Milly decided to check them out on our most recent catch-up.

It’s a cosy café with homely-feel with seating for over 15 people inside and there are a couple of outdoor tables for those warmer days.

Their menu has expanded to include a very impressive list of sweet and savoury waffles and if that feels like too much waffle for you, there all-day, non-waffle breakfast and lunch options too. This Girl has already chosen my next two lunches there – the fish burger and lamb salad. The tempura Cygnet shitake mushrooms also look very tempting!

On our visit, Milly chose the smoked salmon waffle and added a side of bacon, why not! She declared that salmon and bacon were a winning combination and given there was absolutely nothing left on her plate afterwards, there was no doubt she enjoyed it.

This Girl added an egg to the goats cheese, pumpkin and pesto waffles. It was delicious, although the side may have been eggessive; sometimes you should just trust the chef on their portion and flavour combinations!

Belinda remembered that The Other Girl had the lemon curd cream waffle at the food van years ago and mentioned the new, improved version with home-made Italian meringue replacing the commercially-made marshmallows. Knowing her meringue obsession, This Girl predicts she’ll be making a beeline to the café real soon!

They do really great coffee too. So good that if it was on the way to work, it would quickly become my regular!

Waffle On Café is lovely. They make their own breads, ice cream and an impressive range of cakes, biscuits and slices. They even have their own jams, relishes and muesli for you to take home; plus they make their own gluten free waffle batter that is proving to be very popular.

Waffle On Café is at 155 Liverpool Street, Hobart. They are open Monday to Friday 7am to 4pm and 9am to 3pm Saturday and Sunday.

Check them out on Facebook, you’ll find photos of their menu there too.

Some of our other city favourite cafes are Coterie & Co and Dandy Lane.
